Handicapping Maiden Races

Maiden Races are the hardest to handicap due to the fact that the youngsters have not been on the track very long.  However there are a couple of things that you can look for which will assist you in selecting winners. First
look for greyhounds that have good breaking speed. Greyhounds that break well can avoid trouble and get a clean trip. Also look for dogs that run a certain style maiden dogs that run mid-track will run better from the 6,7,8 boxes and rail runners will have a greater chance to win from the 1 or 2 boxes.  Also do not discount running times, an old handicapper once said that the greyhounds don't know if it is a regular race or schooling race. So a fast runner will likely run a fast race in the regular race.  Maiden races can be difficult to bet, however if you can find a couple of strong indicators picking a winner can be fun with a good payoff to follow!
